Welcome!

T

he discovery and development of new
medical innovations has led to both
faster diagnoses and extension in life
expectancies. Patients with many cancers
are now benefiting from advancement in
immunotherapy, while robotic surgery
has decreased hospital stays along with
offering faster recovery times. As healthcare
organizations face unprecedented challenges
to improve quality, increase efficiency,
reduce harm and lower cost, innovation
has become a major focus.

without delay to determine whether a "clot
buster" drug, a stent in a vessel or surgery
is indicated. The faster a heart attack is
treated, the more heart muscle is saved.
In this edition of Vital Signs we hope
to share with you some recent trends in
medicine and help you remain an informed

s a dermatologist, I am reminded
daily about the advances and
innovations in medicine. From the
life-changing advances in drugs available to
treat conditions like psoriasis to targeted
chemotherapy drugs for many cancers
to medical device innovations such as
lasers, robotic surgeries and cosmetic
body sculpting devices, I am amazed and
proud to be a part of this era in medicine.
