WINTER/ SPRING 2018
Feature
Certified Recovery Specialists
OFFER HOPE
ithin the Northeast counties of
Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Luzerne
and Wyoming, we are privileged to
have a passionate group of people in long
term recovery from Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) that are employed in the listed
Behavioral Health agencies. These Certified
Recovery Specialists (CRS) live, work, and
volunteer in our local communities to bring
their message of hope and support to all and
can be accessed via the contact information
listed if you would like to learn more.
CRSs advocate and assist recovering
persons to overcome barriers and help
bridge gaps to valuable professional and
community resources. They provide hope
and encouragement on a one-on-one basis
through their own lived experience and
success, providing recovery education
to individuals during every phase of the
recovery journey. Together, the CRS and
recovering person identify and gain access
to community resources (communities of
recovery, educational, vocational, social,
cultural, spiritual resources, holistic,
self-help groups, professional services,
etc.) that support the recovering person's
goals and interests.
CRSs promote self-advocacy by assisting
recovering persons to have their voices fully
heard: to identify their personal interests,
goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding
recovery and personal wellness, demonstrating that recovery is possible! The role
of the CRS is to engage and support others
in recovery from a SUD. They share their
lived experience of recovery as a role model,
mentor, advocate, and motivator for recovering individuals to support and promote
long-term recovery.
