elcome to our second edition
of NEPA Vital Signs! This
publication is intended to
promote health and wellness in our
community. With the New Year, we bring
a new voice to our Journal, the Luzerne
County Medical Society. The joint effort
of the Lackawanna and Luzerne County
Medical Societies in this venture is both
practical and proactive. As medicine and
the healthcare world evolve, so does our
community. There are many joys and
struggles that unite us as a profession,
but the landscape in which we practice
often presents some unique challenges.
Collaboration between our counties will
build a stronger medical community and
continue to allow us to provide great medical
care to the patients we serve.

A

s the incoming president of the
Luzerne County Medical Society,
I am very excited to partner with
our colleagues and friends at the Lackawanna County Medical Society on NEPA
Vital Signs. Together our medical societies
can do so much more to reach a larger
segment of the population we serve. We
acknowledge the diversity within our communities and strive to improve healthcare
for all our residents.

In this issue we focus on vaccinations.
While vaccinations are a major advance in
modern medicine, the topic can be divisive.
It is clear there is a no "one size fits all"
approach when it comes to discussions
about vaccinations. We hope this Journal
helps enhance the understanding of
our readers and can help patients and
providers navigate these discussions
as it pertains to an individual's specific
healthcare needs.
I want to thank all those who contributed
articles and a special thanks to Dr. Eget, our
Editor, as well as Drs. Arscott, Dempsey and
Preate, and Tonyehn Verkitus, Executive
Director, for all their hard work making
this publication possible.
