PCMS also Recognized and Honored a few of Philadelphia's Exceptional Physicians who Received Awards
for their Dedication and Achievements.
Dr. Mark L. Tykocinski was awarded the Strittmatter Award for
his valuable contributions and influence to the science of medicine.
The annual Strittmatter Award is PCMS's highest honor presented
to a physician who has made the most valuable contribution to the
healing arts. Established in 1923 by I. P. Strittmatter, MD, the award
commends the recipient's contribution to one of the fundamental
sciences of medicine, having a beneficial influence on either surgery
or medicine.
Dr. William S. Frankl was awarded the Cristol Award for his
outstanding contributions, furthering and enhancing the educational
and charitable goals, purposes and functions of organized medicine.
The Cristol Award is presented to a physician member for his or her
significant contributions to the Society, furthering and enhancing
the educational and charitable goals, purposes and functions of
organized medicine. The award honors the memory of David S.
Cristol, MD, an outstanding member of PCMS.
Dr. Lara Carson Weinstein received the Practitioner of the Year
Award for her exceptional patient care and community service. The
PCMS presents the annual award to a physician who has been
nominated for dedication to the medical profession in the areas of
quality patient care and community service. The Practitioner of the
Year award is supported by the Wiener Fund established by the late
Jacob S. Wiener, MD, past member of PCMS.
Dr. Jonathan Suarez received the Vanitha Appadorai Vaidya, MD,
Award for Humaneness in Medicine. The Vanitha Appadorai Vaidya,
MD, Award for Humaneness in Medicine commends humaneness
demonstrated by a resident/fellow physician. This humaneness is
characterized by exceptional skills in working with people, patients
and their families, and understanding human as well as clinical needs
especially in the kindness of treatment.
Additionally, the PCMS honored the following exceptional
physicians for their 50 years of medical service: Dr. Allen Bar;
Dr. Donald Kahn; Dr. J. Frederick Laucius; Dr. Anthony M.
Padula; Dr. Constantinos Pavlides; Dr. Meeta Peer; Dr. Robert Polishook; Dr. Said Sharifi-Azad; and Dr. Ira Silberman. *
