PVMA Keystone Veterinarian Fall 2020 - 29

This year PVMA's Hall of Fame Awards premiered virtually in conjunction with the
Keystone Veterinary Conference on August 14, 2020. Although we could not meet in
person to present the awards to the winners, we hope that we were able to honor
them in our video presentation in the comfort and safety of your home.

Meet this year's winners...
Richard H. Detwiler Cornerstone Service Award: Dr. Malcolm Kram

This award is presented to someone who is truly a giant in both Animal Care PA, PVMA's
charitable arm, and PVMA. Dr. Kram has spent years serving both organizations. He was
instrumental is establishing our Henry's Helping Paws Program and securing funding through
PetSmart® Charities. He led the efforts to re-brand the Pennsylvania Veterinary Foundation
into Animal Care PA. His leadership has been invaluable to the Foundation and he continues to
volunteer his expertise as the Chair of the Henry's Helping Paws committee. He has a wealth of
knowledge and his never-ending passion and enthusiasm is inspiring. Congratulations Dr. Kram!

Veterinary Industry Partner of the Year Award: Dan Pitrovich

This award is presented to a veterinary industry partner of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical
Association for showing steadfast commitment to the Association and the veterinary profession.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted not only the practice of veterinary medicine; it also impacted
the way that PVMA delivers continuing education. We have had to adapt and find new ways
to provide our members with the education we need for licensure. The cancellation of events
and the need to invest in new technology have had an effect on PVMA, but the support of our
industry partners has helped to keep us moving forward. Boehringer Ingelheim, and specifically
Dan, has offered unwavering support of PVMA. We cannot express how grateful we are for your
support. Congratulations Dan!

A. Wayne Mountan Memorial Media Award: Ms. Joyce Davis

This award is presented to a member of the news media in Pennsylvania for excellence in
communicating veterinary medical contributions to animal and public health. This year's winner
is Joyce Davis, Opinion Editor of PA Media Group. Joyce used her Facebook Live series to
provide accurate information about animal health during the pandemic. Her interview with our
very own Dr. MJ McNamee covered topics including whether or not pets spread COVID-19, what
is considered an urgent/emergent issue for pets, and the origins of the virus. PVMA recognized
Joyce for treating veterinary medicine as an integral part of public health. Congratulations Joyce!
