2021 Hall of Fame Winners
PVMA's Annual Hall of Fame Awards were
celebrated on August 13, 2021. Nominations
were received for the PVMA Member Awards and
the Public Service Awards. The Awards Selection
Committee thanks all who thoughtfully submitted
nominations.
We were very fortunate to be back in a physical meeting and
able to celebrate the accomplishments of our Members in
person. PVMA is pleased to honor them in this challenging
season.
PVMA MEMBER AWARDS
The 2021 winners are...
Animal Welfare Advocacy
Award: Jennifer Kauf, VMD
A PVMA Member who has
demonstrated outstanding
compassion and/or developed
programs for the welfare of
animals.
In her daily veterinary duties at Dairyside Veterinary Services,
Dr. Jennifer Kauf shares her expertise on dairy farms as an
advocate for the welfare of her dairy cow patients. She has
modernized the pain management procedures on her dairies
and has implemented innovative education events for clients,
particularly those hard-to-reach rural farms and small backyard
owners. Her development of beef farm protocols and training
efforts, leadership in animal welfare and health particularly with
the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD), and education of small
ruminant clients about animal nutrition and chronic disease
management all demonstrate her passion for animal welfare.

Certified Veterinary
Technician of the Year
Award: Elizabeth " Liz "
Reichwein, CVT
A PVMA Member who has
provided outstanding performance
in veterinary technology.
" Resilient " is one of the words used to describe Elizabeth
Reichwein, CVT. Liz has handled herself through the many
Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association | 25
challenges and stressors of constant change, particularly those
resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. She is passionate
about the profession and client-patient relationships. Instead
of bouncing back, she bounces forward with innovative ideas
to improve each and every day. On top of the long hours
at Anthracite Animal Clinic, she finds time for her children,
husband, and Boston terriers. Others feel supported and
appreciated when around her. Over the last 5 years, she has
become a shining leader. Congratulations, Liz!
Distinguished Veterinary
Service Award: Linda Baker,
VMD, MS, DACVN
A PVMA Member who has
selflessly dedicated themselves to
veterinary medicine, the health
and welfare of animals, and the
betterment of the veterinary
profession over a period of years.
Dr. Linda Baker has served the agricultural communities for the
past 37 years, first as a large animal veterinary practitioner,
followed by her current role as a Dairy Field Investigator for
the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. Throughout
her career, her focus has been on providing sound nutritional
advice, consulting on cropping strategies to produce
adequate inventories of quality forages, improving milk and
component yields, and contributing to the economic wellbeing
of dairy farms in the Commonwealth. Dr. Baker was also
instrumental in the development and utilization of milk urea
nitrogen as a monitoring tool, directly associated with urinary
nitrogen excretion on dairy farms. Excessive levels signal
inefficiencies with protein-carbohydrate feeding, contributing
to environmental contamination for the Chesapeake and
Delaware watersheds. As an Associate Professor of Clinical
Dairy Production Medicine, Dr. Baker instructs veterinary
students in areas of dairy nutrition and feeding management,
record analysis to evaluate efficiencies in herd milk production,
reproduction, milk quality, and in heifer rearing, offering
management solutions to address areas of concern and improve
the farm's economic success. Dr. Baker puts the welfare of
the dairy farm and the farm family as a priority in working
with the dairy industry. She has a passion for teaching, which
is complimented by the respect and appreciation from the
veterinary students. Congratulations, Dr. Baker!
