OPEN FOR PATIENTS
UPMC Pinnacle opened a new UPMC Memorial hospital in
West York on Aug. 18 - nearly 65 years after it opened its doors
at its previous location. A brand-new outpatient center follows and
opens Sept. 9.
The new hospital at 1701 Innovation Drive, York, features 102
beds in a modern, five-level design where all patients will be able to
heal comfortably in private rooms. It provides acute and emergency
medical care, cardiology and vascular services, maternity services,
chronic disease management, and surgical services.

Growing to Meet the Growing Needs
of the York Area
In the last two decades, York County has experienced population
growth of more than 16 percent - that's 60,000 more individuals
calling York County home. With the growth of the population
comes the growth of the community's health care needs.
During the last 20 years, UPMC Memorial saw the number of
visits to its Emergency Department swell from 15,000 per year to
about 45,000, and births have increased from 300 per year to now
500 per year.
"UPMC Memorial has seen exponential growth in Emergency
Department visits, surgeries and births in the last 20 years," stated
Philip Guarneschelli, president and CEO, UPMC Pinnacle. "With
this new hospital and future outpatient facility, UPMC Memorial
is able to continue providing care that area residents need and want
for generations to come."
More than 650 employees will work at the new hospital,
including 150 new hires.

New and Expanded Services
The future hospital and neighboring medical office building offer
services not available at the former Memorial facility, including:
* All private patient rooms
* Expanded cardiovascular services
* Treatment for patients in need of long-term acute care
About 36 percent larger than the previous building on South
Belmont Street in York, the new hospital expands its services,
including:
* Three heart catheterization labs with suites specially designed
for electrophysiology and interventional radiology procedures
* Five leading-edge operating rooms
* Emergency Department with 28 treatment rooms
* Critical Care Unit with 14 beds
Its expanded surgical area will perform a wide range of
traditional, robotic, and laparoscopic surgeries to treat colorectal
conditions, hernias, hemorrhoids, obstetrics-gynecology issues,
gynecological cancers, and more. UPMC Memorial has also earned
the Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI accreditation given by the
American College of Cardiology.
"New and modern facilities are important for better patient
outcomes," said Michael Spangler, DO, vice president of medical
affairs, UPMC Memorial. "The technology and expanded services
in this new hospital will transform what our providers and clinical
teams can offer patients and help us provide an exceptional patient
experience."
