Red Cross Resiliency
Workshops for Veterans

major mobilization of the military.
The American Red Cross offers three distinct resiliency skillbuilding programs to York's military & veteran community.
- Coping with Deployments
- Reconnection Workshops
- Mind-Body Workshops
The three programs are similar in mission, but are unique in
the topics discussed and skills taught.

Coping with Deployment

ur Military & Veteran communities are exposed to
higher levels of stress and unique life challenges at a
greater rate than civilian populations by the very nature
of the life style. Service Members are routinely removed from
their homelife for trainings and deployments overseas, military
families tend to uproot their lives and move often for new
assignments and veterans of all service eras carry the weight of
job-induced stress long after their service comes to an end.
The Red Cross works to support the Veteran and military
families of York County by increasing their levels of resiliency
through skill-building courses called Resiliency Workshops.
Serving the US Armed Forces and America's Veterans is a
tradition of the American Red Cross going back to its founding
and before. Clara Barton began supporting US troops in the Civil
War as a volunteer nurse years before she went on to found the
Red Cross. As the organization grew and added disaster response,
blood collection and CPR training to its range of services, it

Developed to support military families during the
deployment cycle, this course teaches participants how to build
their own and others' resilience. Participants learn skills such as
Psychological First Aid, skills children can use to cope with stress
and where to locate resources to meet needs as they arise.
Coping with Deployment is available as an online self-guided
course or an in-person instructor led course. The in-person
version of the course is delivered in a classroom style setting.
