s summer draws to a close, many of you will hopefully be reading
this as you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather our region has to
offer. This summer was a busy time for the York County Medical
Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. We have continued to voice
our opposition for Senate Bill 25 and HB 100, which would allow CRNPs
full practice authority and serve to erode the benefits and safety provided
by collaborative practice on a healthcare team. While SB 25 was passed by
the full senate, it still is awaiting consideration by the House Professional
Licensure Committee.
Physician burnout continues to be a topic of great concern, often
exacerbated by burdensome administrative requirements. The York
County Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society continues
to advocate for legislation that will decrease this burden. The Pennsylvania
Medical Society also has resources on its website to help with burnout.
You can also find articles in our quarterly magazine to help provide ideas
and guidance on how to reduce and address burnout.
I am pleased to announce that we are resuming our student loan
program for those with ties to York County who are interested in attending
medical school. We are able to provide these loans thanks to a trust fund
that was set up in the 1950s. With the rising cost of medical education,
it is important that we are able to help those students who have ties to our
area and will be more likely to help serve the residents of York County. If
you know anyone interested in this opportunity, please have them reach
out and let us know.
In medicine, and life, we are constantly faced with challenges and
opportunities. Across the region and state we are experiencing hospital
openings, hospital closures, and displaced training residents. With all
of the change that is occurring, utilize the resources at the Pennsylvania
Medical Society and the York County Medical Society. If you have a desire
to become involved, we have a wide array of opportunities available and
would love to hear from you.
