STACEY ROBERT, MD

grew up in Maryland and attended
Loyola University Maryland where I
majored in Biology and Spanish. I
then attended the University of Maryland
School of Medicine in Baltimore. I came
to York in June of 1999 for my family
medicine residency at York Hospital
and have been here ever since. After
completing residency, I joined the faculty
of the residency. After 9 years as a faculty
member, I became the program director
of the Family Medicine Residency and
am completing my 8th year in that role.
I have completed a one-year Program
Director
Development
Fellowship
sponsored by the American Academy of
Family Physicians. I have also completed
the Wellspan Leadership Academy. I first
became involved with the York County
Medical Society in 2007.
What made you become a doctor?
I always had an interest in science and
medicine. My mother was in pharmacy
school when I was in middle school and I
always enjoyed hearing about her studies.
I realized that I liked more of the handson, direct patient care and so I volunteered
in an emergency room in college. This
helped steer me towards medical school. I
loved the diagnostic dilemmas, the ability
to assist and serve others in times of need
and helping to improve the overall health
of individuals and communities.
What do you enjoy most about
your job?
I love the variety of Family Medicine
and the long-term relationships I have
built with patients over years. I also
love the variety in my role as a program
director - teaching, patient care,
mentoring, problem-solving, lecturing,
process improvement in education,
administration, etc. What I love the
most about my job is watching the
transformation of my residents over
3 years. They come in like a deer in
headlights and leave as competent, caring
family physicians whom I would trust to
care for my own family.

What do you do in your spare time?
I love to spend time with family and
friends. My husband and I spend most
of our free time with our children, a
daughter (17 years old) and a son (14 years
old). They are both involved in soccer
and basketball and so we spend a lot of
time transporting them and watching and
cheering for them. I also enjoy spending
time outdoors and traveling.
What is your favorite vacation?
This is tough - there are so many places
that I love for different reasons. The
beach is relaxing, refreshing and beautiful.
I've been in AZ, UT and CO hiking and
that was breathtaking and exciting. I've
traveled in Europe and Japan and love
experiencing different cultures and new
lands. My in-laws live in Maine and
hiking the coastline is gorgeous - at least
in the summer! Overall, any vacation
with a nice view and some new adventure
is good for me!
Why do you think it is important to be a
member of the YCMS?
I feel that it is important that physicians
are involved and aware of how medicine
and healthcare are changing. It is too easy
to put our heads down and take care of
patients without understanding what
is going on around us. Change should
include the physician voice and I find that
the YCMS is a great way to stay involved,
be aware and help serve fellow physicians.
It's important that we provide a positive
environment for physicians and patients
alike to make our communities the best
they can be.
