Outgoing President

hese are indeed unprecedented times. What I am writing now
is my outgoing President's Message, which normally would be
spoken at our annual Installation Ceremony. This year, we must
be content with it being read only. Who would have imagined a year ago
that our world would be completely transformed by a strand of RNA?
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President
of our York County Medical Society for the past year. It has been quite
a year and I have been privileged to work with an excellent Board of
Directors. Each one has carved time out of their lives to volunteer in an
effort to make York County a better place for physicians to practice and
patients to live. They all deserve a big "thank you"! Not to be forgotten,
Liz Torres, our Executive Director, has worked tirelessly in her service to
the York Country Medical Society and our members across the county.
Over the past year, we have had some challenges but still have ended with
great accomplishments. We have continued to expand membership, with
a focus on involving physicians from the larger healthcare organizations
in the region as well as those physicians who have remained private. The
diverse membership of our incoming board is a testament to this focus. In
addition to involving attending physicians across the county, we hosted a
resident social last summer. We are actively working to engage the county's
resident physicians in organized medicine through additional events later
this year. It is vitally important this group of physicians participate in
advocacy, information sharing, and education and have an outlet for their
voice to be heard. They are our future.
We have re-established Medical Student Loans and are looking
forward to our second disbursement of funds this summer. With the everincreasing cost of medical school, this will help those with ties to York
