The new WellSpan Heart & Vascular Center on South George
Street has a rooftop garden (visible at right), where staff will
grow fresh vegetables for healthy cooking classes. Behind the
center (to the right, with a green roof) is the J-Mar Farms stand,
also offering fresh produce to patients and the community.

roviders at the new WellSpan Heart & Vascular Center are
building healthy hearts in York County by offering state-ofthe-art
cardiovascular care as well as programs that promote
healthy eating and exercise.
The $33 million, two-story center, on South George Street, houses
WellSpan Cardiology, WellSpan Cardiac Surgery, and WellSpan
Vascular Surgery. It also houses supporting outpatient cardiovascular
services including the WellSpan Heart Failure Program and noninvasive
procedures such as echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, and
vascular ultrasound.
The new center, which opened in May, also offers a cardiac
rehabilitation program, housed in a roomy, bright gymnasium with
large windows that look out on the campus.
WellSpan cardiovascular team members at the center teach patients
how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle via a demonstration kitchen
for cooking classes, which are supplied by fresh produce grown in
a rooftop garden. Patients can exercise on a rooftop track and on a
walking trail that winds through the campus.
Patients also can shop for fresh seasonal foods on the campus, at

Produce from the stand is being featured in the demonstration kitchen
and in meals served at the center's Healthy Heart Café.
