IN THE COMMUNITY:
Over the years, Yen gave back to the York Medical
Community. She did two fund raisers for The York County
Medical Foundation to support Tsunami relief in Sri Lanka and
Thailand. And she and her son Chris did all the cooking for a
fundraiser at the Susan Byrnes Health Center for 2000 people.
In 2010, Yen had a stoke and was unable to continue
working in the restaurant. Yen's son Francis and daughter Jenny
DiMarcello, along with Jenny's husband Joseph, took over the
restaurant and menu. In 2015, the restaurant outgrew its space
and moved to its current location of 2535 E. Market Street.
The dining room today can accommodate 100, and features
a sushi bar as well as a menu with traditional Vietnamese and
Thai dishes, Asian/Fusion, and some Indian influence. Take
out and catering is available, and though the restaurant is
closed Sundays, it is available for private parties. When asked
what specialties are most favored on the menu, Joseph replies,
"everything."
Nine grandchildren and many years later, Yen sums up her
experience by saying the "American people have good heart, and
I will never forget all those who helped me."
If you have not yet visited this establishment, add it to your
"to do" list. You will realize what you have been missing. Hours
are Monday through Saturday - 11:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. Bon
Apetit!

"MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET"
AT THE STRAND THEATRE ON
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2020
O
n December 4, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, Sam
Phillips, the owner of Sun Records had invited Jerry
Lee Lewis to join Carl Perkins and his band as they
were recording material for a new record. In the early afternoon
Elvis Presley stopped by with his girlfriend, Marilyn Evans. After
listening to the recorded tape Elvis entered the studio and started
jamming with the others. Then Johnny Cash dropped in and
joined them. Jack Clements, the recording engineer decided to
record it all. Phillips meantime had called the local newspaper
entertainment editor, Bob Johnson, to stop by. In reporting on it
the next day he called it "Million Dollar Quartet".
The original tapes contained 46 tracks lasting from 17 seconds
to just over 4 minutes.
Elvis Presley was 21, Johnny Cash 26, Jerry Lee Lewis 21, and
Carl Perkins 24. Their subsequent music accomplishments are
legendary.
The musical "Million Dollar Quartet" previewed in Florida,
Washington, and Chicago, before opening on Broadway on April
11, 2010, and closing on June 12, 2011, after 489 performances
and 34 previews. It was nominated for 3 Tony Awards, Best
Musical, Best Book for a Musical, and Best Featured Actor in a
Musical, winning the last category for Levi Kreis playing Jerry Lee
Lewis. The show has been touring the country intermittently ever
since. "Million Dollar Quartet" is a recreation of that historic jam
session.
