Why Business
Cards Still
Matter
By Kim Lewis, Suzy Rae Design

I

n today's business, almost everything is done digitally,
from making appointments to marketing to even group
networking. Business cards may seem outdated, a calling
card from years past, but we disagree.
When you meet someone new at a networking event or
trade show, what is the one reminder of your introduction?
Most likely a business card. When you visit a customer, you
leave a business card in case they need to contact you again.
Business cards matter and here are five reasons why you
should carry them around at all times.

1. A first impression matters. A lot.
When you meet someone that could potentially be a good
connection or client, don't you want him or her to walk away
with a great first impression? A business card does a lot more
than just pass on an email address or phone number. Nice
quality business cards enhance your brand, increase your perceived value and set the tone for what it's going to be like to
do business with you. A successful card should contain your
company's logo and necessary contact information, including
a phone number, website address and email where you can be
easily reached.

2. They are the most effective direct
marketing tools.
Business cards put a face to a business. When meeting
someone new, handing them your business card will help keep
your business in the back of their minds. Though they may not
need your product or services today, there may come a time
when they do. You can encounter a potential lead or contact
at any time - tradeshows, restaurants, meetings - and having
business cards with you at all times will ensure that you never
miss an opportunity to make a valuable business connection.
You never know what kind of opportunity could present itself
at any time.

3. Creative business cards get remembered.
Everything on a business card makes a statement about who
you are and what it's like to do business with you. Your brand
stays with them. If you hand over a creative business card with
a unique design or maybe a card using textures, embossing, or
a different type of paper, that makes a great impression and
they are likely to hold onto it.

4. A business card can represent credibility.
A business card can represent trustworthiness and reliability
that a company or business person would attach his name and
number to a physical card.

5. Business cards show you are prepared.
Have you ever had someone write his or her contact information on a cocktail napkin and hand it over to you? How
about someone with an out of date business card with scribbles all over it with their new email address or phone number
extension? It isn't the most professional approach. If you met
two individuals and one was scrambling to find a pen and
something to write on and the other person simply pulled out
a business card, who would you want to do business with?
