What's Really Important To You

A KITCHEN QUIZ
by Kohl Building Products

I

f you're thinking about changing up your kitchen, it's a good
idea to think about these questions before you take even the
first step toward renovations. When you're remodeling a
kitchen - or any part of your home, for that matter - it's usually
not a question of "if something unexpected will happen," but a
question of "when something unexpected will happen."

Having established and defined your priorities in advance will
help you to proceed calmly, and be confident in your decisions
because you understand those priorities and have a clear picture
of your end game.
So, take a few minutes and, along with anyone else who's involved with the kitchen project, on a scale of 1 (not important)
to 5 (very important), rate how you feel about the following:

1.

A stylish kitchen that matches what's trending right now.

2.

A kitchen that encourages entertaining by providing
seating and space for people to congregate.

3.

Storage space for everything in the kitchen in order to
eliminate keeping pantry items in the laundry room and
the crockpot on shelves in the garage.

4.

A kitchen that makes it easy to experiment with exotic
foods and new recipes - with easy access to spice racks,
knives and cutting boards, and pots and pans.

5. A timeless kitchen that will always be more or less in
style.
6. A kitchen that makes room for pet food storage, water
bowls and spaces for animal to sit out of the way, watching what's going on without being underfoot.
7.

Local.

Where we make decisions.

When David and Cindy Wolfskill decided to expand their dairy farm,
they switched to Tompkins VIST Bank.

"They're different," says David. "When you need something,
Tompkins VIST is there immediately."
Says David: "They really go above and beyond."

Ideas that keep the kitchen quiet - less banging of pots
and clinking of silverware, no slamming of drawers, less
rustling around to find the colander or bay leaves or bag
of chips that you want.

8. A kitchen that the family feels comfortable hanging out
in, and that encourages conversation.
9.

Ideas that incorporate audio/visual entertainment, from
music and television to places where it's safe for electronics to stay dry and out of the way of food prep.

10. A kitchen that's designed to make it easy to bake, with
easy storage for baking sheets and mixing bowls, and
countertop space for rolling out dough.
11. A kitchen that can stand up to wear and tear over many
years.
When you've finished with your answers, go through and draw a
line through five of the statements above - things that you would
give up if the budget simply didn't accommodate them. Compare
your answers with those of everyone involved, and then discuss
with your kitchen consultant or designer.
