Advanced Textiles Closing Session:
Industry Organizations' Responses to
COVID-19 and How to Move Forward
[Advanced Textiles Conference]

Thursday, Nov. 12 | 2-3 pm

Thursday, Nov. 12 | 2-3 pm

Mar Ricketts, Principal, GuildWorks LL
Sebastian Collet, Vice President, GuildWorks LLC
Beatriz Ferreyra, Lead Design, GuildWorks LLC

Steve Schiffman, President and CEO,
Industrial Fabrics Association International
Kim Glas, President and CEO,
National Council of Textile Organizations

David Bowick, P. Eng., Principal, Blackwell Engineers
The U.S. Pavilion was originally designed for
the 1974 world's fair in Spokane, Wash. The
pavilion shed its temporary skin after a couple
winters but remained an icon as an early U.S.
cable net structure.
GuildWorks was chosen to lead the process
of developing a new artistic shade system to
integrate with the existing structure as part
of a major renovation of the larger downtown
Riverfront Park. To do this, GuildWorks was
required to inspect, analyze and reverse
engineer this almost 50-year-old iconic
structure. It was a challenging process that
pushed capabilities and required lots of
collaboration and innovation to succeed.
Participants will be walked through the
process from design and analysis through
engineering and installation, including
challenging problems faced along the way-
all of which led to the successful completion
of the unique shade array at the new
Riverfront Park Pavilion.

Advances in UV-Technology for Use in
the Field of Textile Dyeing, Finishing,
Coating and Composite Materials
[Industry Education | Advanced Textiles]

Wednesday, Nov. 4 | 10-11 am
Dr. Reinhold Schneider, Senior Scientist, DITF
Traditional dyeing and textile finishing are
marked by impregnation of textiles with
diluted dyestuffs or finishing chemicals and
subsequent thermal fixation. This processing
requires a lot of energy. The use of UV-curable
dyeing liquors and finishing chemicals could
significantly contribute to energy saving and new
textile products. Attendees will leave with the
knowledge of:
*	The basics of UV-curing in terms
of chemistry and equipment.
*	How a number of newly-developed UVcurable systems are used in inkjet printing
and finishing as well as coatings and matrix
systems in composites.
*	The potential of energy saving when using
UV-curing.

Join us for a panel, featuring key industry
association leaders which include IFAI President
Steve Schiffman and NCTO President Kim Glas.
This presentation will dive deep into the state of
the textiles and industrial fabrics industry as we
recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss
ways that the associations serving the industry
have positioned themselves to support the
continued development, production and
sales of advanced textiles.

Amplifying Human Energy to Drive
Performance and Recovery
[Advanced Textiles Conference]
Wednesday, Nov. 4 | 2-3 pm
Seth Casden, CEO and Co-Founder, Hologenix
Recent studies in the effectiveness of responsive
materials have clinically proven they can enhance
performance and recovery among healthy individuals
by recycling InfraRed energy. Infusing fibers with
certain minerals into the core gives products the
ability to absorb electromagnetic light energy
emitted by the body. These minerals then alter the
wavelengths of this energy into InfraRed and reflect
it, even through multiple layers of fabrics, making
it possible for the tissue to absorb it. This process
triggers vasodilation in the capillary bed and makes
more oxygen available to cells, allowing for more
efficient use of it by the body.
This presentation will look at developments in
responsive materials and the use of InfraRed
technology for recycling human energy, with an
emphasis on enhanced performance and recovery.

Case Studies in Shade Sail Design
[Campfire | Shade and Weather Protection]
Tuesday, Nov. 3 | Noon-12:30 pm
Patrick Howe, Founder and CEO, Wholesale Shade
Robin DuBroy, Director of Customer Training
Programs, Wholesale Shade
Gregg Burrows, Sales Manager, Wholesale Shade
Presenters will review projects that solved a unique
shade sail problem using creative designs.
Key takeaways:
*	Explore shade sail problem-solving with
creative designs
*	Examine the process used to troubleshoot
and create solutions
*	Evaluate the results achieved and steps
for next time
