New standard will support
measuring quality of
cement in geosynthetic
composite mats
A new ASTM International standard
will aid engineers and specifiers looking
to understand the quality and strength
of cement contained in geosynthetic
cementitious composite mats (GCCMs).
ASTM's geosynthetics committee developed the new standard, which is needed
to allow for a consistent industry method
for the application of compression
strength in GCCMs.
GCCMs are flexible, concreteimpregnated fabrics that harden on
hydration to form a thin, durable waterproof and fire-resistant concrete layer.
NAUE offers a
biodegradable geotextile
NAUE GmbH and Co. KG has announced
the development of Secutex Green, a
biodegradable nonwoven geotextile, as
an alternative application for geosynthetics. Secutex Green is a sustainable
solution intended for applications where
a long life span of the nonwoven is not
necessary. Typical areas of application
include separation, filtration and protection layers; gardening and landscaping;
temporary path and road construction;
embankment protection and near-natural
waterway construction; coastal protection (single nonwoven geotextile layer
and/or sand containers); and scour protection (sand containers). G
