ABG wins BCI award
The Wave inland surfing lake near Bristol,
England, has won the Cultural and Leisure
Project of the Year at this year's British
Construction Industry (BCI) awards,
hosted by NCE Magazine. The lake's
design includes ABG's Pozidrain geocomposite drainage layer to relieve groundwater uplift pressure at the site. The location
is nearby to the Severn Estuary and its
floodplains, which meant extensive design
work was required around the management of both ground and surface water.
Pozidrain channels the groundwater to
a nearby attenuation basin, before being
discharged to the existing local ditch network. ABG also provided the Truckcell
permeable paving solution at the project to
improve boggy ground conditions in the
northern areas of the site and to provide
new access routes and a maintenance yard
area that minimizes surface water runoff
to predevelopment levels.

IKO acquires
Axter's waterproofing
membrane division
IKO, a global leader in the manufacture of residential and commercial
roofing products and insulation, has
announced that it has struck a deal
in which it intends to acquire Axter's
waterproofing membrane division from
the SMAC group. An information and
consultation process is currently underway with the relevant stakeholders and
will be completed before the deal can
be finalized.
" IKO's purchase of AXTER's waterproofing membrane division will complement its industry leading position in
the European waterproofing and insulation business, and add a leading player
in the French market to IKO's growing
international footprint, " stated Hartley
Koschitzky, CEO of IKO's European
operations. " We are excited for the
opportunity this acquisition presents for
IKO both in France as well as our ability
to leverage both AXTER's talent and technology across our global organization. "
CETCO unveils RESISTEX
Universal GCL series
As a new class of polymer-modified
geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) that
will be added to CETCO's existing
RESISTEX GCL family, the RESISTEX
Universal GCL series offers strong
performance against calcium chloride (CaCl2). Designed to withstand
medium- to high-strength leachates,
including coal ash, high pH mining
leachates and low pH mining leachates,
the series includes RESISTEX U40 GCL,
RESISTEX U60 GCL and RESISTEX
U80 GCL. Each product variation is
distinguished by its polymer content.
By reducing the effects of ion exchange
and offering lower hydraulic conductivity against aggressive groundwater
chemistries, the RESISTEX Universal
GCL series is an important addition
to the existing product line with its
proven performance against aggressive leachates. This includes increased
swelling and sealing capabilities, and
robust chemical resistance to aggressive
leachates at higher effective stresses
post-ion exchange.
Ferguson acquires Atlantic
Construction Fabrics
Ferguson PLC announced the acquisition of Atlantic Construction Fabrics
Inc. (ACF), a geotextile company operating along the East Coast.
Founded in 1984, ACF provides
geotextile, stormwater and erosion control solutions to the civil construction
market primarily along the East Coast.
Headquartered in Richmond, Va., the
company operates with approximately
190 associates across 20 locations from
Florida to Maine and extending west
into Ohio. The company has annualized
revenue of approximately $100 million.
" ACF adds a large geographic footprint along the East Coast and additional geotextile capabilities, which will
further diversify our waterworks business and complement our existing customer offering in geosynthetics, erosion
control and stormwater management, "
Murphy said. " We will now rapidly integrate these businesses into our network,
and I would like to take this opportunity
to welcome our new associates at ACF
to Ferguson. "
