Layfield and SKAPS release
GeoVolt geocomposite
Layfield Geosynthetics and SKAPS
Industries released GeoVolt, a patented
conductive geocomposite that makes
electrical leak location simpler and
more efficient with almost any type of
geomembrane. GeoVolt is delivered
in rolls and placed directly under the
geomembrane to provide a consistent
conductive layer for testing. The product
consists of a conductive film needlepunched
into a nonwoven geotextile, and
it can be provided in a variety of thicknesses
and weights depending on the
application. This format allows the nonwoven
layer to provide the dual duty of a
cushion layer beneath the geomembrane.

" Steward of the Environment " award to
Joseph Scalia IV, Ph.D. He is an assistant
professor in the Civil and Environmental
Engineering Department in the Walter
Scott Jr. College of Engineering at
Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort
Collins. Scalia specializes in geoenvironmental
and geotechnical engineering.
His research and teaching centers on the
convergences of soil mechanics with contaminant
hydrology, geology, environmental
engineering, hydrology, mechanical
engineering and hydraulics. GSI
established the Landreth award to honor
Robert E. Landreth (1939-2021) and his
wife, Mitchell. The award is bestowed in
recognition of " distinguished engineering
achievement " by a young faculty member,
graduate student or post-doctorate working
