IGS-NA elects new officers
and board liaisons
T
he latest IGS North America (IGS-NA) general assembly took place on Feb. 22 during
the 2021 Geosynthetics Virtual Conference.
The society's new president, John Allen, accepted the gavel that was passed from Dr.
John S. McCartney, president, 2019-21.
The new board and industry liaisons were announced and started their activities on
the same date. The board is as follows:
* President, John Allen, Owens Corning
* President-elect, Ben Leshchinsky, Oregon State University
* Treasurer, Kate Patterson, Klohn Crippen Berger
* Vice President-Technical, John Lostumbo, TenCate Geosynthetics
* Vice President-Communications, Lilma R Schimmel, HUESKER Inc.
* Vice President-University Outreach, Kristin Sample-Lord, Villanova University
* Secretary, Eric Blond, Eric Blond Consultant
* Past-president, John S. McCartney, University of California, San Diego
Newly added organization representatives will help expand the reach of IGS-NA. The
following are the liaisons supporting the board:
* Evan Andrews, Liaison for Coal Ash Residuals
* Fady B. Abdelaal, Liaison for the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS)
* Fred C. Chuck, Liaison for the Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA)
* George Koerner, Liaison for the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI)
* Kent Von Maubeuge, Liaison for ASTM
* Mike Henderson, Liaison for the Tailings Center
* Sam Allen, Liaison for the IGS Council
* Timothy Stark, Liaison for the Pan-Am Committee and the Fabricated
Geomembrane Institute (FGI)
* Willie Liew, Liaison for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
The events being planned for the near future include three forum discussions: Per- and
Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), Recycled Products, and Geosynthetics Used in Coal
Combustion Residual (CCR) Applications.
The organization is looking forward to 2021 and invites all to follow IGS-NA on
