Eschenbach Group completes speedy construction
of temporary structures over speed skating rink
lympic speed skating hopefuls in
Germany will enjoy a modernized
training facility once reconstruction
is complete on a track in the state
of Saxony. To keep construction on
schedule through the winter, the state
government reached out to Eschenbach
Group of Bad Königshofen to supply
an oval-shaped temporary structure
solution to cover the track.
" In several construction phases, the
speed skating rink will be modernized
for over 10 million euros so that the
athletes will ϐind the most modern
training facility, " says Eschenbach group
director of sales Philipp Eschenbach.
" With our temporary structures, we
enable the optimal construction process
so that the athletes can train for the next
Winter Olympics. "
Eschenbach Group received the
order in early October 2020 and
began installation by late October. The
aluminum-framed structures span

16 meters at the curves and 20 meters
on the straights, with a side height of 3
meters. With the rink being 400 meters
long, the temporary structures cover a
total of 6,000 square meters. The challenge
of this project involved closing the oval at
the curves, and it was the reason why the
Eschenbach Group was commissioned,
Philipp Eschenbach says.
" Our production program encloses the
technical manufacture of PVC and textile
materials of all kind, " he says. " That
is why we were able to provide our
client with an individual solution for
[their] requirements. "
The build required two weeks, plus an
additional week to produce and install the
customized solutions. In addition to the
structures, Eschenbach Group supplied
a special heating and ventilation system
that enables the perfect temperature to
work and meets the health requirements

n the Atlanta Opera's fall 2020 interpretation of Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, the tragic clown Canio has COVID-19.
But the Georgia-based company went to
great lengths to ensure that its cast, crew
and audiences didn't succumb to the
same fate, with the help of a circus tent
from Springϐield, Ill.-based Armbruster
Manufacturing Co.
" They were looking for a traditional
circus-style tent in the size of 60-by125 feet with 12-foot-high sides for
better ventilation inside the tent, " says
president Hellar Armbruster. " The ϐinal
plan was for a blue and red traditional
round-end circus-style pole tent with a
custom valance from our 1890 designs
and matching sidewalls to partially close
in the tent when needed. "

Made in the traditional style of
Armbruster Manufacturing's older
circus tents but with modern materials
and fabrication techniques, the tent
was manufactured last summer and
installed on the historic Anderson
Field at Oglethorpe University. With a
capacity for 240 audience members,
the tent hosted nine performances each
of Pagliacci and The Kaiser of Atlantis.
Safety protocols and procedures
were developed by a task force of
epidemiologists, public health specialists
and doctors. And the tent triumphed
over a more typical safety challenge
as well.
" Shortly after the tent was installed,
it withstood hurricane-force winds and
performed wonderfully, " Armbruster says.
