Fabrics
You want to use a lightweight fabric.
For solids, I like Stamoid™
Light,
Stamoid Top or Stamoid Smart.
For a mesh, try Soltis®
86 or 92
(these materials are very stable).
Or you can use acrylic fabrics like
Sunbrella®
WeatherMAX®
, Sattler or Tempotest®
is also a good
.
material for shade sails. Use the
widest material possible to avoid
seams. That's why I use Stamoid;
it is up to 102 inches wide.
Storage bag for poles
Provide a storage bag for the shade
sail poles to protect them (Photo
9). Some storage bags will be for
two poles, depending on each
customer's boat. Take some heavyduty
material and line it with a
softer material like Evolution®
or a
soft-back vinyl. Depending on the
diameter of your support poles,
you will have to sew individual
pockets for each pole. Make them
loose so that they are easy for
the boat owner to stow away.

If you're adding a folded edge, add the extra material and draw the extra for the fold
onto your fabric. Cut this out. Go to the corners and measure up 3 inches from this point.
This is where your reinforcement for the grommet or D ring will go.
