don't have the shop and parking space
[for that]. "
Trend watch: quality and simplicity
Experts have differing opinions about
how much the auto, marine and residential
markets affect each other in terms of
trends. But they agree that being knowledgeable
in each area helps guide customers
to the right choices. " The markets
move in the same direction as far as
changes of style but also as far as how
busy we are, " Ortiz says. " You can look
at the RV market to get a good idea of
where the boat market is going as well. "
When it comes to design trends, Ortiz
says there are no hard and fast rules
but she's seeing a push for simplicity.
" There is a general trend for fewer patterns
and more solids or stripes. Very
simple lines, " she says, " whereas in the

and only take on crossover work for the right customers. "

adding services-and forecast shop needs, including
having the space and tools to accommodate different job
types. Make sure you have processes in place to track costs
and income [for new markets], such as learning how to bill
the new types of work, incorporating different distributors
and exploring insurance changes that might be necessary. "
