BRIEFINGS CELEBRATING CRAFTSMANSHIP HEIGHTENED TENSION HYBRID TENSION STRUCTURES WINNING ENTRIES OF THE 2019 INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE Towering facade Thyssenkrupp's test tower for high-speed elevators in Rottweil is one of the tallest buildings in Germany, with a height of 246 meters. The tower includes 12 elevator shafts, office and meeting rooms and the highest viewing deck in Germany. The client requested a membrane facade with a steel substructure to be developed, fabricated, delivered and installed. The facade is made of 16,000 square meters of PTFE-coated fiberglass mesh membrane attached to six steel tubes that spiral around the tower supported on A-beams. Installation required the development of a ring-shaped state-of-the-art installation platform that could move up and down the tower. It is the highest membrane-covered building in the world, and in its first year, more than 250,000 visitors enjoyed the dramatic view. 20 REVIEW NOVEMBER 2019 Taiyo Europe GmbH Sauerlach, Germany www.taiyo-europe.com TEXTILE Verseidag-Indutex GmbH DESIGNER/ARCHITECT Werner Sobek/JAHN Architectshttp://www.taiyo-europe.com
