IN MEMORIAM: Franz Peter Zimmer
F
ranz Peter Zimmer, a visionary pioneer of modern
textile printing technology, passed away in Kufstein,
Austria, on February 12, 2022. Zimmer dedicated more
than 70 years of his life to developing new and revolutionary
ideas for textile printing, thereby significantly altering
production methods and machinery in the printing sector.
He spent his career in his parents' company in Kufstein,
where his family had relocated after having been expelled
from Bohemia in the aftermath of the Second World War. In
Kufstein, the family machinery business had to be rebuilt from
nothing. Zimmer joined the efforts after having spent time
away at school, acting and in the mountains, which helped him
to process and overcome the horrors of his time as a soldier.
The Society of Dyers and Colourists
(SDC) is urging the textile coloration
industry to harness developments in
processes and create a new era of
reduced environmental impact in 2022
and beyond. It has published a free
downloadable white paper, " Destination
low carbon: Global technology and
innovation reducing the environmental
footprint of textile coloration, " to
summarize exemplary practice, and to
inspire the wider sector. A total of six
case studies from the U.K., Switzerland,
Sweden and Germany explain methods
developed and established over recent
years as well as brand-new innovation.

X-Rite Inc. and Pantone LLC announced
the appointment of Chris Brooks to the
role of president, X-Rite. A seasoned
leader with more than 20 years of general
management, commercial, engineering
and global operations experience, Brooks
will lead the company's innovation
strategy into digital color platforms, cloud
services, and connected hardware.

Introduction to the market of sweeping technological

platform. EMPEL delivers a water
repellent DWR, anti-wicking and stain
release treatment. Recent independent
tests conducted by Bureau Veritas prove
that EMPEL uses no PFOA/PFOS in its
chemistry to achieve its water-repellent
fabric protection.
NILIT, owner of the SENSIL®
sustainable
consumer brand, has announced
organizational changes that reinforce
the company's commitment to creating
a more sustainable position for the
textile and apparel industry in the
global marketplace. Sagee Aran
will lead product development and
commercialization initiatives and
Michelle Lea has joined the company to
direct worldwide marketing programs.
As chief innovation and sustainability
officer, Aran will continue to expand the
SENSIL portfolio with environmentally
responsible products. In her new role
as vice president of global marketing,
Lea will connect the SENSIL portfolio to
conscious consumers through the brands
and retailers they support.
INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven
Fabrics Industry, announced that IDEA®
- the World's Preeminent Event for
the Nonwovens & Engineered Fabrics
Industry - will be held every two years
instead of three starting in 2024. The
upcoming dates for IDEA under the new
schedule will be April 23-25, 2024 at the
Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami
Beach, Fla. FiltXPO™, North America's
only exposition and technical conference
dedicated exclusively to the filtration
and separation industry, returns to an
18-month schedule and will next take
place October 10-12, 2023, at Navy Pier,
Chicago, Ill.

Dietzgen Corporation. Dietzgen
Corporation is a provider of converting
and distribution services for digital
print media including papers, films and
textiles to the U.S. market. Sihl Inc.,
headquartered in Fiskeville, R.I., is Sihl´s
converting and distribution center serving
the North and South American markets
with products for market segments such
as signage and photo, labels and tags and
ARTYSIO flexible packaging.
