Hendor is focused on being an industry partner and propelling
its green strategy with smart technology for future generations
F
or 75 years, family-run Hendor has specialized in
pumps and filtration systems for the metal and surface
finishing industry. This Netherland-based company
got its lean start with the two founders building
thermoplastic pumps and filters shortly after the Second World
War. Today, it offers an entire portfolio of vertical and horizontal
pump and filtration solutions for applications with highly
aggressive, acidic alkaline, oxidative and other water based
liquids.
Keeping true to its roots, Kees Stigter, sales director for
Hendor says, " We look at the needs of the market, we look at
availability, and we pay a lot of attention to the cost and use for
our customers. Of course, over time there's been a lot of change.
We stopped using acrylic and introduced new materials such as
polypropylene, PVDF and stainless steel. And we have modern
production technologies allowing us to manufacture all of our
products in-house, keeping full control over the end product
quality. "
As a medium sized company consisting of 35 employees,
Stigter says having manufacturing done in-house gives them the
ability to be flexible and big enough to be a good industry partner
for its customers with the ability to offer experience and address
specific needs. " The starting point is our standard portfolio, but
where needed we can always customize solutions by combining
filter systems or filter techniques into one system, with different,
for instance, connection options. If there are special liquids
that need to be pumped or filtered, we can adjust the material
or add a bigger motor if needed. We don't build to stock; we
build to demand and we do that because there is continuous
customization needed. "
Hendor also has a keen focus on sustainability and safety,
which includes developing equipment with a long lifespan and
helping the industry with greener, energy efficient solutions. For
example, Stigter explains that for those filtering hot liquids or
thin chemistries running at high temperature, competitors have
filled this demand with stainless steel systems.
" But stainless is expensive and conducts heat well, causing
heat-loss by radiating heat to its surroundings. Customers were
buying these expensive systems and lost a lot of energy just out
of the heat alone, " he says. " We supply a polypropylene filter unit
capable of handling temperatures up to 100 degrees C. This is an
affordable system that saves energy. It's also safer because you
can touch the housing without burning your hands. "
The polypropylene (PP) unit he is referring to is part of the new
generation HE series that Hendor launched this year. This series
of cartridge and disc filter systems is designed for the filtration
of electrolytes and other wet chemical process solutions. It's
powered by a magnetic drive or mechanical seal pump, and it
features an enhanced hydrodynamic design for minimal pressure
loss, a smart hinged cover with reinforced PP-GF pressed plate,
forged stainless-steel swing bolts and smart pump pull-back.
Besides numerous options like dry-run protection or frequency
drive, the option filter alarm was newly introduced, launching
the HE-series to the market. The filter alarm provides a warning
lamp and PLC-compatibility, which lights up from the moment
filter media are best replaced, preventing loss of filter capacity
and potential damage to the pump.
" There are certain modifications to the system to make it heat
