GEOGRAPHY
Geographically North America accounted for the largest share
in 2015, owing to increase in applications of these coatings in
eyeglasses and an increase in their incorporation in solar panels
due to their ability to improve energy efficiency.
At the same time, Germany accounted for the highest market
share in the European market and is anticipated to continue that
growth, AMR says. This is attributed to increase in installation of
solar panels and extensive developments in automobile industry,
which encourage the use of these coatings.
APPLICATION
Anti-reflective coatings are used in a wide variety of instruments
that require minimal reflection and light loss. They increase the
efficiency and improve image quality and contrast when applied
to the surface of the lens.
Based on applications, the market is further segmented
into electronics, optics, solar, automobile and aviation, and
others. Other applications of anti-reflective coatings include
telecommunication and construction.
Optics are growing and projected to be the largest application
segment, owing to the increasing use of anti-reflective coatings
in eyewear, binoculars, telescopes, and other instruments
incorporating lenses.
The eyewear application segment includes the use of antireflective
coatings in eyewear, where prescription glasses
are covered with single or multiple layers of anti-reflective
coatings. The reduction in reflection and loss of light ensures
clearer vision, improvement in image contrast, better cosmetic
appearance, less strain on eyes, and resistance to dust, water, and
scratches. However, eyeglasses with antireflective coatings tend
to look dirtier than they are due to the clear lens, and therefore
need more care and attention.
The solar panels segment is a good investment market owing to
the rapid adoption of anti-reflective coatings in the photovoltaics
industry. The advantages of using anti-reflective coatings in solar
panels such as improved efficiency and increase in power output
have fueled the adoption of these coatings. A rise in installation of
solar panels is also expected to drive the market growth..
