MACHINE SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS CNT'D.
However, as we noted there is no eliminating hazards when either
building or working around machines, the focus needs to be on being
educated and employing factors to mitigate the risk. For this you need
to be able to identify the hazard, implement workplace procedures,
ensure all relevant staff are trained have emergency preparedness and
finally ensure that your machine is equipped with the correct safety
applications.
This could be as simple as light curtains, safety stop buttons, safety
valves when working with air compression, or even ensuring any
potentially hazardous areas are highly visible with signs. One thing we
cannot stress enough is ensuring that when any maintenance is being
done that lockout and tagout procedures are being followed. Often
simply gaining support and knowledge form a safety inspector can
provide you with the necessary tools to ensure safe operation of
machines.

Too often, we have heard about workplace incidents and serious
injuries because of improper procedures, training, or implementation
of machine safety applications. It is up to everyone working in and
around machinery to ensure safe operation. Throughout this Digital
Handbook you will find several products and resources to learn about
how to ensure machine safety for your equipment and employees. It
starts with learning in school but learning and employing risk mitigation
should never end.
