Xantrex Makes Major
R&D Investment
IN NEW CANADIAN FACILITY

BURNABY, British Columbia-based Xantrex is changing the
power equipment landscape.
When you walk through a large international marine trade
show or discuss boating on a global scale, you can't help but
realize a simple truth. Canada does not have the largest recreational boating industry in the world. But what it does have is
a disproportionate number of companies that lead the world in
their respective markets.
When it comes to developing, manufacturing and marketing
advanced power electronic products and systems, Burnaby, BCbased Xantrex stands alone. Backed by affluent new owners as
part of the $36 billion Schneider Electric conglomerate, and
armed with a new $13 million R&D lab for product development, Xantrex is now moving with a new growth strategy that
aims to position the company as the number one supplier of
electrical equipment not just in Canada, but around the globe.
As a leading manufacturer of electrical systems products,
including inverters, battery chargers and combination inverterchargers for both commercial and recreational markets,
Xantrex is a familiar name in the Canadian and US boating, RV
and commercial trucking industries. Launched in 1983,
Xantrex went public in 2004, then was acquired by Schneider
Electric in 2008 in a $500 million deal that quite literally
changed the firm's business landscape overnight. "Schneider
Electric does business in more than 100 countries and has
more than 150,000 employees worldwide," says John
McMillan, Director of Sales, Xantrex brand at Schneider
Electric. "We gained an opportunity to leverage that, along
with the strength of the Xantrex brand name, and incorporate
truly world class R&D. Now that the integration is fully complete, we're in a unique position with a real opportunity to
