MADE IN CANADA Nova Kool Refrigerators Nova Kool has been manufacturing refrigeration products in the Pacific Northwest for over 35 years. In 1990 the business was purchased by Doug Werner who moved it first to North Vancouver and then to Coquitlam where it has operated for the last 15 years. The company is now run by Doug's son Jim and his business partner Sean Boag. About half of Nova Kool's product goes to the marine market while the balance is mostly used on campers and RVs. The list of OEM customers is extensive and includes major brands Nordic Tug, American Tug, Rangers Tugs, Hunter sailboats (now Marlow-Hunter), Cruisers Yachts, Carver, Meridian and Canadian builders, Campion Boats, KingFisher Boats and Coastal Craft Yachts. The majority of manufacturers in the sector use the same compressor, so Nova Kool keeps its competitive edge with a focus on reliability and customer service. Marine refrigeration can be a mystery to many. To help with purchase and maintenance the Nova Kool website has an extensive FAQ section as well as good general explanation of the basic principles of refrigeration. According to Jim Werner, the aftermarket, which is handled by the company's knowledgeable distributors such as Western & Transat Marine and Stright Mackay and their dealer network, has been an important factor in allowing the business to weather the downturn in new boat manufacturing. In addition to Canada and the US, Nova Kool has distributors in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Nova Kool's products, both dc and ac/dc are mostly found on smaller sail and power cruisers. The product range includes single door units from 0.8 cu.ft. up to 5.8 cu.ft., double door units from 4.2 cu.ft. up to 9.1 cu.ft. as well as the LT series of icebox conversion kits. Their largest refrigerators are fitted on boats up to about 50'. After that size many boats use domestic units and rely on generators to keep things cool.
