AD NAUSEAM The Sky is Falling: time to soar Above it All BY JOHN MORRIS As we drag through the winter of 2016, all is not well with the world, especially in the realm of personal affluence. The market is taking a shit kicking, the Loonie is on a bobsled run and the best advice we've been given is 'hang on'. Meanwhile it's winter and say what you will about the joys of the ski slope, the Canadian winter is not Tortola. But eventually spring will arrive and this note's mission is to remind you that you will be there with a big smile on your face. Or else. You may be worried about your business' profitability, the boat sales graph on the wall or the leak in the roof of the repair shop, but those pesky details of your own situation count about as little as the colour of Doug Porter's tie when he presents his outlook for the Canadian economy. 18 Boating Industry Canada FEBRUARY 2016 Remember - it's not about you. What is of critical significance is the joy you can bring to your customers. Make no mistake; we are in the happiness business. This whole boating thing is for the benefit of boaters and if you, as the person who can make dreams happen, can profit from it, that is good. But secondary. Their stockbroker and boss may be making them weep with rage, budget panic may have postponed the order for a new 5-Series but spring is soon. The buds on the trees mean that worldly concerns will soon vanish for the boater. Their boat is their sanctuary and escape from the sea of red ink and negativity. As the curator of this wonder, take that role extra seriously in another year of uncertainty and horror. But it's more than pasting on a clown smile. There are a number of positive things you can do that will prove that you
