Canadian Yachting April 2021 - 22
We stopped in the anchorage behind Picnic
Island the following morning-a good position
from which to zip into Little Current by dinghy to
restock before the trip south.
Sailing past Strawberry Island and returning to
Covered Portage under grey skies with smatterings
of rain, we began our 4-day trip back.
Further south we sailed past the lighthouse at
Bustard Rocks and proceeded down The Gun
Barrel (channel) to an inner anchorage near Pearl
Island. Once settled, we went back out to the lighthouse by dinghy, where for the remainder of the
afternoon, we took photographs, looked for frogs
and snakes in the ponds and grass and marvelled
at the artistic veining in the beautiful gneissic rock.
We awoke suspended in a cloud. A thick fog
reduced visibility to less than 100m. Clear by 9
am, we travelled across the northern side of the
Bustards, putting in at Pointe au Baril one night
and anchoring south of Fryingpan Island for the
last night of our trip.
" Next year, " the captain announced, " we're
coming here for eight weeks or more! " Northern
Georgian Bay and the North Channel exceeded our
expectations as a cruising ground. Without a doubt,
we'll be back.
