is the traditional Friday night themed dinner. Each year
something new is tried and the resulting costumes, predinner games and entertainment make for a truly memorable evening.
Travelling to the conference for me has been a bit of adventure as well. I often do not fly but take the less traveled
road and often take the bus or drive if the site is not too far
away. Conferences on the west coast are a mere 72 hours
away by bus from Toronto and have always been filled with
interesting people, places and events. This year I drove to
the conference from Ontario and over the course of two
days saw lots of fall colours and wonderful scenery as well.
So as you read through this very first December Edition of The Port Hole do keep in mind that although it is
only twelve pages long, there is a lot of interesting reading
and our future looks very bright, as the conference pictures
show more than just a collection of people having a good
time, but also show that they are all very dedicated volunteers helping CPS-ECP achieve its ongoing outreach and
education goals.
So do you have a story to tell? Has your Squadron done
something of interest?
If so, do send me your stories and information and look
for them in the winter edition of The Port Hole. Send to
theporthole@cps-ecp.ca. The deadline for submissions is
December 31, 2017.

THE PORT HOLE

ith this edition of The Port Hole you will notice a change of tack. This is the first English
December edition and it will focus on the recent CPS-ECP conference held in Charlottetown, often
referred to as the "Cradle of Confederation". It has also been
decided that instead of the four issues a year that have been
the norm for decades, The Port Hole will now be issued six
times a year and each issue will have a reduced number
of pages. So for the next six issues, you will get your Port
Hole, but it will only be twelve pages long instead of the
usual number so some of the regular articles that appeared
in the past editions will have to be staggered throughout
the year. Please be patient as this change of course may
take a bit of getting used to for all of us that help put The
Port Hole together. Someone once said, "Change is always
good", so I am looking forward to the change of course and
exploring some new landscapes as well!
This year's conference of course was held on an island
and the last time this happened was in 2010 when we all
gathered in Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island. It was
an excellent experience as it seems that island people always know how to entertain you and make you feel right at
home! The Prince Edward Island conference crew also did
a marvelous job and in the following pages you can see the
photographic evidence that everyone in attendance had a
very good time.
With each conference there is always the anticipation
of what might happen and then there are the surprises.
For myself, the most entertaining part of these gatherings
