Echo Spring 2021 - 18

Mariah Keener ('16) performed
two songs from the new project,
" SEEN, " by Kristen Brewer, LBC|
Capital Instructor and a writer
for Sight & Sound Theatres in
Lancaster, during chapel
services in April. " SEEN " is a
collection of songs that touch
on key moments of women in
the Bible who are in the lineage
of Jesus, from Eve to Noah's
wife to Mary. Learn more at

usic is more than catchy phrases and a
tune good enough to stick in your head.
Music is relatable as it brings stories
together. A community can be served
in many ways, but the language of music seeps
deep into the lives of those who hear its words and
melody. For years, Lancaster Bible College | Capital
Seminary & Graduate School has come alongside
musicians in their journey, as they serve both God
and their communities with their talents.
Mariah Keener ('16), a Campus Worship Leader
at Lives Changed by Christ (LCBC) in Lebanon,
Pennsylvania, uses music not only in the church
but also in her community. " I've (led) worship
for a homeless shelter, I've done chapels for an
elementary school, and I've done fundraising
nights for a non-profit, " says Keener. " Recently I
had the opportunity to lend an instrumental track
of my song 'Make Me Whole' to Hope Noted, a new
organization in the Lancaster area that revolves
around mental health and giving hope to people
who are struggling. "
Keener uses her musical talents in diverse ways,
but she stays close to the " why " behind her musical
abilities. " My music has never been the point, but
it's been the vehicle, " she says. " The point is to
make people feel less alone, and music has helped
me do that. And that's not in kudos to me; that's all
to do with God having His hand on my story and
on my writing. "
Upon arrival at LBC | Capital, Keener was deemed
a " diamond in the rough " in her first audition; she
felt seen and pursued by the staff and faculty,
including Dr. Rob Bigley, Ryan Shenk, Dr. Timothy
Sidebothom, Rachel Sidebothom, Heidi Shannon
and Dr. Daniel Foster.
" Dr. Bigley might be one of the biggest influences
on my life, " says Keener. " He has helped shape me
into the woman and musician I am today. I
learned a lot of practical tools through lessons
and classes, but the model of leadership that I was
able to witness during my time [at LBC] made all
the difference to me. And I am forever indebted
to them. "
