Music has also been central in shaping
the testimony of Dave Ross ('11), Worship
Pastor at Calvary Church in Lancaster. Ross
has always been passionate about music,
but it was not until he attended LBC that
he realized his mission beyond music: to
lead people.
" I remember Lancaster Bible College having a
great influence on me through the people and
my time there, " says Ross. " Helping me to see
that, God had gifted me to lead worship, but he
had called me to do more than just that. To do
more than just to play... but he had called me to
lead people. LBC helped me grow and develop
my leadership toolbox. "
Dave Ross ('11) leads worship at
Calvary Church, just minutes from
LBC | Capital's Lancaster campus. He
says that " LBC helped me grow and
develop my leadership toolbox. "
Ross serves his local community through the
songs he connects to the words of the Sunday
message and the unity found in a congregation
singing together. When lyrics and a melody stick
in an individual's head, a song filled with biblical
truths can become an encouragement to the
community throughout the week.
" Then later in the week that [song] comes back
up in their head and it reminds them of the truth
they sang and it helps solidify that in [their] lives,
and it helps even drive that deeper into our
hearts. "
As these three musicians can attest, opportunities
to serve the community can be found in unique
ways: lyrics sung in a diversity of circumstances,
a song played at the right moment, a platform
making way for a movement or a worship song
filling the weekly thoughts of an individual with
biblical truths.
For Mariah Keener, Holly Starr and Dave Ross,
music is more than a melody. It is a Godcentered,
people-driven mission.

" How many times do people walk out of a service
and they're still humming the song? " asks Ross.
