astor Pamela McHerrin ('19) earned her
Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies at LBC |
Capital - Philadelphia. She is serving her
community through her church, True Christian
Fellowship Outreach Ministries, located in
Philadelphia.
LBC | CAPITAL: Please tell us about some of the
ways your church serves the community.
PAMELA McHERRIN: True Christian Fellowship
Outreach Ministries strives to serve low-income
individuals, the unemployed and neighborhood
residents struggling with substance abuse and
homelessness. We distribute food and clothing
every week, offer referral services to community
resource agencies and provide temporary and
long-term housing. We use a holistic approach as
we interact with our community residents. The
church offers spiritual guidance through the Word
of God during weekly Bible study and prayer
meetings to strengthen and transform minds,
hearts and lives within the community. Our
outreach ministry encourages neighborhood
residents to become acquainted with God, follow
His teachings, trust in His Word and evolve into
faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
LBC: Is there a specific instance you can share
where a community member or family benefitted
from this outreach?
PM: Yes, one member of the community needed
housing services. Although she was employed, the
family became homeless and, shortly afterward,
she lost her job. It became apparent this woman
suffered from mental health issues she was unwilling
to address. She was a divorced mother with two
sons who were reluctant to assist her. However, we
continued to keep her in prayer, ministered to her
and kept her safe. She found other employment
but could not remain employed because of her
mental issues and physical disabilities. She suffered
from severe back pain. We encouraged her to apply
for disability benefits. After three years, she finally
completed the process, and she became financially
stable. She found affordable housing and is an
active member of our congregation. She has grown
spiritually and emotionally as she is thriving in a safe
environment with a mental health professional's
assistance.
LBC: How has your education at LBC | Capital
played a part in your ministry?
PM: The education I received through Lancaster
Bible College has given me a clearer insight
into presenting the Word of God. It is delivered
holistically, impacting the listeners to identify
themselves in God's plan for their lives. The tools
gained enabled me to have greater empathy with
others. The professors taught from the textbook
curriculum and taught from the life curriculum
from the journey they had made in life living out
the Word of God. The testimonies that were shared,
combined with the teaching, have helped shape and
guide me in ministry.
LBC: How has the Lord led you in His plan for
your life?
PM: The call to pastor came over 25 years ago, but
as God anointed David to be King, David had to wait,
grow and serve. I had to wait for my appointed time
as well. On Aug. 7, 2016, True Christian Fellowship
Outreach Ministries was birthed, and we held our
first service. God chooses ordinary people to do
extraordinary things. He has ordered my steps and
established my purpose in building His Kingdom.
I praise Him because I heeded the call and am
continuing to learn to rest in Him. My life Scripture is
Psalm 127:1: " Except the Lord build the house, they
labor in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the
city, the watchman wakes but in vain. " As I yield to
the direct and perfect will of God for my life, I will
serve Him with gladness. I am His servant, and He is
my Lord. To God be the glory for the things He has
done in my life.
