Make Every Effort to Add to Your Faith...
alvation in Jesus is not the end of life
with God, rather the beginning. That's
why we are told to " add to our faith. "
For this very reason, make every
effort to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge; and
to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness; and to
godliness, mutual affection; and to
mutual affection, love. For if you
possess these qualities in increasing
measure, they will keep you from
being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
-2 Peter 1:5-8 NIV
We don't add to our faith to win God's
approval; Jesus won that for us on the cross.
We don't add to our faith to boast in our own
strength or abilities, for " what do we have
that we did not receive? " (1 Corinthians 4:7).
We don't add to our faith to outdo anyone,
except to outdo one another in showing
honor.
But we do add to our faith to help us stay
effective and productive for the Lord.
I am grateful to be serving an institution
that helps students add to their faith. At
LBC | Capital, this occurs though class
lectures, interactions with professors, student
friendships, chapel, clubs and activities,
educational travel as well as athletic training
and competitions. It happens through the
efforts of faculty and staff who share a
passion to educate Christian students to think
and live a biblical worldview and to proclaim
Christ by serving Him in the Church and
society. It happens through the generous
assistance of friends who have helped to
make Lancaster Bible College the institution
it is and has been for the past 88 years.
I'm a student of history. These days I'm
reading Margaret Tuchman's " The March
of Folly. " In her 1984 book, Tuchman, the
esteemed historian and two-time Pulitzer
Prize winning-author, notes how often
nations act contrary to their own interests.
" Mankind, it seems, makes a poorer
performance of government than of almost
any other human activity. " Folly marches to
the drumbeat of hubris and the trampling of
humility. It occurs when leaders fail to " add "
appropriately to their lives.
What a contrast to Lancaster Bible College|
Capital Seminary & Graduate School. Here,
students are equipped to add to their faith
in such a way that, rather than repeat the
mistakes of the past, they move boldly for
Christ into the good works for which he has
prepared them.
The following pages offer glimpses of
students, faculty and staff who are effective
and productive for the Lord. Thank you so
much for helping us " add to the faith " of
students at Lancaster Bible College | Capital
Seminary & Graduate School.
