Gardening Hints
August is a good time to pick flowers
for drying. In addition to statice and
strawflowers, try drying hydrangeas,
golden yarrow, winged everlastings,
poppy pods, sea oats and any ball shaped
dahlias. To dry them, gather small
bunches, rubber band the stems together
and hang in a warm dry place like an attic
or garage ceiling.

Recipe
BLUEBERRY GINGER COOLER
You will need:
1 liter of water
1 ¼ c. blueberries
1 TBS grated ginger
4-5 TBS sugar
2-3 cans lemon lime sparkling water
(unsweetened)
Mint leaves
Directions:
Combine water, blueberries and
ginger and bring to a boil. Add
sugar and when it dissolves add
blueberries and mash with spatula.
Then simmer for 10-15 minutes. Cool
and cover with plastic wrap. Let sit
at room temperature for 2-3 hours,
then refrigerate. To serve, fill glass
2/3 full with blueberry mixture. Add
ice and sparkling water. Garnish with
more blueberries and mint leaves.
