RICHWOOD
Richwood is fast becoming one of West
Virginia's most popular foodie destinations.
With five thriving locally owned
restaurants, a coffee shop, pubs, farmers
markets and more, the charming little
lumber town is living up to its motto:
" That Unique Mountain Flavor. " Still recognized
as the Ramp Capital of the World,
Richwood cooks up an annual springtime
feast for over a thousand visitors: wild
ramps, cornbread, sassafras tea and more.
Mountain flavor is more than just food.
Bikers
flock
to
Richwood
ten
months out of the year to take advantage
of the amazing mountain routes, most
notably the Hellbender Loop, headquartered
at the town's former depot.
Richwood was recently named one
of the ten Mon Forest Towns, unique
communities that border the sprawling
Monongahela National Forest. The Mon
Forest initiative showcases the amenities
these small towns offer tourists. In
addition to its eateries, Richwood has a
growing number of unique shops selling
everything from local honey to Sasquatch
memorabilia.

Forest, Richwood has long
been a popular destination
for traditional outdoor recreation
like hunting, fishing,
camping. But a new
generation of ecotourists
are coming for the hiking,

cross-country skiing, kayaking, mountain
biking, stargazing. Tourists on
their way to Snowshoe Ski Resort and
the New River Gorge National Park
have discovered Richwood as a great
stopover. Air BnB and other vacation
rentals have popped up all over town.
In addition to the Feast of the
Ramson in the spring, Richwood
hosts the Scenic Mountain Triathlon
in July, the Cherry River Festival in
August, the Mountain Color Art Walk
in October and the Hometown Holiday
Marketplace in December.
