Le retard légendaire des Français agace.
Comme si le Français voulait démontrer que son agenda est chargé, qu'il
y a toujours de bonnes raisons pour faire attendre ses condisciples, un
retard d'avion, un problème de taxi, un coup de fil urgent... et que parce
qu'il est important, on lui pardonnera...
Un certain manque d'humilité, voire d'arrogance.
Non seulement le français arrive en retard, mais ce qu'on lui pardonne
plus difficilement c'est sa tendance à commencer son intervention en
remettant en cause des points qui avaient été actés lors du précédent
échange. Le Français aimerait réinstaller le doute et montrer qu'il est
exigeant.
Il m'est arrivé de jouer avec cette perception, et pour détendre l'atmosphère en contournant ce préjugé, de commencer ma présentation par
cette phrase « I'm snobish, selfish and arrogant, je suis donc, vous
l'avez compris, Français ».
Le Français peut avoir tendance à afficher une certaine supériorité.
Pensant arriver en terrain conquis, il ne fait pas toujours l'effort de
comprendre qu'il intervient dans une communauté dans laquelle il est
important de montrer la considération que l'on a pour l'autre.
Les pays imprégnés de la culture du haut contexte prennent le temps de
saluer chaque personne, de rappeler la contribution de chaque personne au
projet commun. L'organisateur de la réunion prend le temps de présenter
le rôle de chaque participant, même si tout le monde se connaît.
« Ce qui n'est pas nommé, n'existe pas ».
Engager une réunion sans ce préalable est perçu alors comme un manque
manifeste de courtoisie.
Conscient de ce besoin d'attention, j'ai pris l'habitude en préparant mes
interventions dans des réunions multi-culturelles de me renseigner sur
l'actualité immédiate des participants. S'enquérir auprès du participant japonais du typhon qui traverse le nord de son pays, remercier la
