Regroupent cinq espèces identifiées en France métropolitaine (Reticulitermes
flavipes, Reticulitermes lucifugus, Reticulitermes banyulensis,
Reticulitermes grassei et Reticulitermes urbis) et deux espèces
supplémentaires dans les DOM (Coptotermes et Heterotermes)
Regroupent les Kalotermes flavicollis, surtout présents dans le Sud de
la France métropolitaine et les Cryptotermes, présents principalement
dans les DOM et de façon ponctuelle en métropole
Appartiennent au genre Nasutitermes, présent presque exclusivement
dans les DOM
Les principaux indices d'une infestation sont :
- des altérations dans le bois ;
- la présence de termites vivants ;
- la présence de galeries-tunnels (cordonnets) ou concrétions ;
- des cadavres ou restes d'individus reproducteurs ;
- la présence d'orifices, obturés ou non.

« I. Dans les secteurs délimités par le conseil municipal, le maire peut enjoindre
aux propriétaires d'immeubles bâtis et non bâtis de procéder dans
les six mois à la recherche de termites ainsi qu'aux travaux préventifs ou
d'éradication nécessaires.
Les propriétaires justifient du respect de cette obligation dans les conditions
fixées par décret en Conseil d'État.
Si l'immeuble est soumis à la loi n° 65-557 du 10 juillet 1965 fixant le statut de la copropriété
des immeubles bâtis, la notification de l'injonction aux copropriétaires est valablement faite au
seul syndicat des copropriétaires pris en la personne du syndic qui doit en informer sans délai
chaque copropriétaire par lettre recommandée avec demande d'avis de réception. [...] »
Le lecteur observera que les pouvoirs du maire sont étendus ; il peut en effet contraindre les propriétaires
à faire réaliser des diagnostics et, surtout, des travaux préventifs et/ou curatifs.
