While the development of vehicle telematics presents benefits for the motoring public, it raises privacy
concerns for car owners and could impact the availability of competitive vehicle repair. Ninety-three
percent of association members believe vehicle owners should be able to decide who has access
to their telematics data, and we agree. Currently, once a vehicle is purchased by an individual, the data
generated is sent directly to the manufacturer. The Auto Care Association believes that the car owner,
not the car company, should determine where the information from those systems is sent, if to anyone.

potentially onerous California Battery Recycling bill.

Vehicle Data/Telematics

MICHIGAN: Helped orchestrate the veto of a
Michigan bill which mandated that repair facilities
must make repairs with only new or OEM parts.
TEXAS: Defeated Texas legislation that would
have eliminated the state safety inspection program
and created a summer work study to examine the
benefits of the inspection program to the state.

The efforts of the Auto Care Association, its partners and supporters ensure that the voices of all

Association's efforts contributed to the Lexmark International, Inc. patent victory at the Supreme
Court of the United States for the automotive aftermarket. In addition, more than 700 meetings
with legislators and policymakers were held to expand awareness and drive action. But - we

strengthen the industry for all members.

policymakers, a 40 percent increase over last year.

More than 500 industry leaders from across the country
contributed over $250,000 to the PAC so far in 2017,
a 25+ percent increase over last year.
