GOVERNMENT
AFFAIRS
BE A HOMETOWN HERO
THIS SUMMER

IT'S finally summertime, and families
everywhere are embarking on or
finalizing their plans for the season.
Camp, the beach, mountains -
everything is on the table.
One thing you might not be
thinking about is that your elected
representatives will also be away
from Washington, D.C., and looking
for opportunities to meet with their
constituents back home. If you have
been meaning to connect with your
elected official, this is the year to do it.
Why? Because this election year
could result in a serious shake-up
in Congress. Bottom line, legislators
need to make connections with
constituents to give themselves a
decent chance to be elected.

The auto care industry is facing
many challenges, whether it's
the ability to access vehicle data,
embedded software on motor vehicle
parts or steel and aluminum tariffs.
These challenges require that we
have a strong government effort in
Washington. While the Auto Care
Association maintains an experienced
lobbying team and a healthy Political
Action Committee, the strength of
an industry in Washington is often
measured by the amount of activism
back home in the legislative districts.
For our industry's legislative
agenda to be achieved in Washington,
companies and their employees need
to educate their local elected officials
on the importance of the auto care

industry to the economy, and what
issues are impacting its bottom line.
This year, the association has taken
the summit out of Washington and
moved it to where the legislators are
going to be: home, running for election.
That is why the Auto Care Association
has launched the Hometown Summit.
We are working with aftermarket
companies to organize meetings
throughout the country as a way to
open communication up between
elected officials and their auto care
constituents and to inform legislators
of our industry and its issues. The
association staff will do all of the leg
work, including coordinating meetings
and preparing briefing materials
to make provide the legislator.
It's easier to connect with your
legislator than you think, and it can
help build an important relationship
that would increase support for our
industry's legislative agenda and
your company's future prospects
as well. For more information on
participating in or holding a Hometown
Summit in your area, contact Aaron
