PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
MAKING A BOLD
STATEMENT IN THE
NATION'S CAPITAL

KATHLEEN SCHMATZ

I could not have been more pleased
with the results of our first-ever State
of the Auto Care Industry Report
unveiled in Washington, D.C. on
Wednesday, April 29, and the highly
visible activities that surrounded it.
The report was delivered at the
State of the Auto Care Industry Forum
at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to
an audience of invited legislative and
regulatory agency representatives,
motor vehicle related trade association
executives, financial analysts, the
media and others. With our report as
the core of the presentation, special
VIP speakers from Google, IHS, AAA
and UPS discussed issues, data and
trends from their unique perspectives
as businesses not typically associated
as players in the auto care industry.
NASCAR driver and team owner (and
Dancing with the Stars celebrity) Michael
Waltrip entertained attendees with his
humorous stories and made the strong
connection between motor sports
and the auto care industry. He made
the point that without the auto care
industry there would be no auto racing.
Waltrip also generated a real buzz
on Capitol Hill, making opening remarks
at our auto care industry briefing at the
Cannon House Office building, hosted
by North Carolina Congressman Robert

Pittenger the day before the forum.
And the more than 250 Hill staffers
and a few members of Congress who
attended our reception at the Rayburn
House Office building that evening, were
treated to photographs with Waltrip.
These events were reinforced by
weeks of advertising in the top digital
and print media read by those on Capitol
Hill and in D.C. Ads ran two weeks prior
to the events, during the events and two
weeks following the events in Politico,
Roll Call, Congressional Quarterly, the
Economist and the Washington Post.
The State of the Auto Care Industry
Report and Forum was in a way our
"coming out party" as part of the
policymaker rollout of the rebranding
initiative. Our vision for next year and
beyond is to broaden the event by
partnering with other trade associations
and organizations for an "Auto Care
Industry Week" in Washington, D.C.
We are also considering taking
the concept on the road to a state
capitol or two, and perhaps taking it
overseas. View the report at www.

Stand by.
