President'sMessage
It's finally car season! After a very mild winter, I'm super excited to be outside washing the cars and getting ready for the next event. Going to a few cars & coffee meets
over the past cold months scratched the itch somewhat, but nothing like a normal
warm-weather car season does. All of our programs have a full year of events planned,
and while the pandemic is still relevant, we've taken the precautions needed to keep
members safe. While we may need to tweak the format here and there or include
additional preemptive steps, know that we've put in the work to prioritize safety for both
members and volunteers.
First up is our NCC Annual Meeting, which in any other normal year, would have
happened during early winter. Tentatively scheduled for June, please check our email
blasts and/or NCC website for a definitive date and registration link. This event is
usually one of the biggest of the year, and with the hopefully ending-soon pandemic,
we're happy to announce that the meeting will take place outside at Smokey Glen Farm
in Gaithersburg, MD. The board specifically chose this location due to its huge footprint and the ability to socially distance outdoors. It has a huge pavilion for those
wanting cover from the elements and plenty of grassy areas for parking, games, and
other activities. It's a family-focused event for sure, but it's also a cool place to
congregate with fellow club members after so many months in hiatus.
Summit Point is also ready to host both our HPDE and Autocross programs,
for those wishing to scratch their motorsports itch. Our Karting group has scheduled
several dates at United Karting for some great competition and we have a ton of
backroads to explore during our scheduled tours. For those interested in golf, we have
our annual golf outing at Raspberry Falls in Leesburg, to chase around that little
white ball. So, there's no shortage of things to do with other like-minded folks;
we guarantee a good time to those who join us!
Since driving cars is what we're about, why not plan to travel for some of our
regional or national events? After a year off, we will return to the Pittsburgh Vintage
Grand Prix in July, and in Greenville, we will attempt to break the Guinness World
Record of largest parade of BMW cars in The Ultimate Parade. But our annual O'Fest
Forever is really where this club shines; our yearly trek to celebrate all-things-BMW
heads to Hilton Head, SC for an incredible week. Held in conjunction with the famed
Hilton Head Island Concours & Motoring Festival, this is the East Coast equivalent to
Monterey Car Week. In fact, this is such a big event, that the Legends of the Autobahn
East has been created to showcase an all-German-marque event prior to the main
event, the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance. This promises to be an awesome,
car-enthusiast haven for those who can't make the trip to Monterey in August, so we
hope to see you there!
