It was a beautiful January afternoon of this year and
I was out running errands in my 1991 BMW 318is.
Upon exiting my local post office, I found an
unknown gentleman standing in front of my car.
We introduced ourselves (his name was Rick) and
we shook hands. Rick told me he had just finished
working on his '88 325iX at home. I'm sure hearing
this made my face visibly light up as we
proceeded to chat about our E30s and other things
BMW-related. I learned that Rick has been a
member of NCC since 2000, that he knows a great
deal about vintage BMWs, and that he has great
taste based on the other vehicles he owns.
We spoke about our experiences with NCC's
programs and activities such as the Deutsche
Marque Concours each May (which is rescheduled
for October this year). Rick and I exchanged
phone numbers and email addresses so as to keep
in touch.

Due to the global pandemic, my experience
with Rick earlier in the year is a stark contrast to
the time I'm writing this column in mid-May.
At this time, I only leave my house to go to work
or the grocery store. The majority of everyone's
events have been cancelled, postponed, or
rescheduled. Everyone is practicing social
distancing, which means we're not introducing
ourselves to strangers or shaking hands. When
the cover of the January/February issue of der
Bayerische informed me "Change is Coming", it
certainly was correct!
Fear not, the COVID-19 pandemic will
eventually pass and we will get back to where we
were. Once again we'll have the opportunity for
chance encounters and to make new friends.
In the meantime, NCC is continuing to work hard to
bring positive change to the chapter and to its
members. In fact, we are debuting a new chapter

logo! Find out more about our new chapter logo
and how the logo has changed over time in this
issue's article, "Out with The Old, In with The New."
Additionally, NCC has launched two new virtual
offerings: virtual tech talks from the NCC DIY
program and a sim racing series from the NCC
iRacing program! Please take a look at the articles
covering these events in this issue to find out more
about how NCC continues to innovate and keep
its members engaged.
We'll get through this. In the meantime, as
I'm sure many of us are, I'll be making the best of
the current situation by spending lots of time with
my family and catching up on projects. Stay safe
and healthy, and remain positive!
