tour leader, a mid, and a sweeper who
communicated by radio in an effort to
keep the group together. I led the first
group with Paul Seto, your chapter
president, as mid, and Fabian Manan
as sweeper. Robert Hopkins, your
chapter secretary and Tours chair, led
the second group with Jingo
Sambrano as mid and Victor Roy as
sweeper. The final group was led by
Steve Grumbach, with Anna Maripuu
as mid and Mark Rosenberg, a sometimes Tourmeister, as sweeper.
After a week of bad news on the
COVID front, we still ended up with
more than 50 vehicles and about 90
participants who converged upon
Urbana District Park (the rally point)
on a crisp, clear morning. Mark
Kirkpatrick arrived in his 1979 733i
and Gordon Kimpel brought his
beautiful new Dravit Grey M8.
Madhu and Roshni Rao made the trek
from New York City. Besides the
many ///M cars in attendance, there
were quite a few P-cars, including
racer Preston Calvert in his GT3
Touring, and a few Caymans, including a 982 GT4. Dan and Garrie Black
showed up in their classic MercedesBenz 280SL, and a couple examples
of modern American muscle joined
as well.
The tour was organized into
three distinct legs, with the first part
of the tour heading mostly westward
into West Virginia, and traveling over
roads that offered twisty bits and
roller-coaster like experiences. After
a little more than an hour and a half,
the group stopped at Orr's Farm
Market in Martinsburg, WV.
Surprisingly, group three arrived
before group two (if you haven't
gotten lost, you've never really been
on a tour) at this first-time stop. Orr's
opened in 1995, after a rich family
history beginning with George Orr,
Jr., of producing fruit on its many
acres. The farm market offers fresh
produce, baked goods, frozen meats,
gifts, candy, and more. The fall is
especially busy at Orr's, where you
can shop the market, pick applies, or
select pumpkins. Ample parking for
our group, available restrooms,

friendly staff, and a great selection of
products - we will definitely return to
Orr's on future tours!
After a short break (during
which the author and others
purchased pies for Thanksgiving), we
set off on the second leg of the tour,
an exciting run over Scrabble Road
and down into Shepherdstown, WV.
We passed by Antietam National
Battlefield before taking on more
twists and turns leading up to the run
into Hagerstown.
Schmankerl Stube arranged for
the club to dine in three upstairs
rooms and one downstairs location.
The upstairs rooms were recently ren-

ovated, adding a beautiful addition to
the restaurant. Although the Stube
suggested a limited menu of its tasty
Bavarian fare, many took advantage
and ordered from the regular luncheon menu. I noticed a couple empty
beer glasses of assorted sizes as well.
Bulls & Bears offered both indoor and
outdoor (Baby, it's cold outside...)
seating and had its full luncheon
menu available. Both restaurants
were very accommodating and
flexible, as I needed to call multiple
times to confirm the ever-changing
Maryland COVID inside-dining
restrictions and our similarly
changing attendee numbers.

Some of our tour-goers called it
a day after lunch, but a large contingent made the trek to Catoctin
Mountain Orchard for the last leg of
the tour. They were joined by some
members who opted out of the tour
but still needed to grab a pie or two for
Thanksgiving!
Thanks to all of the volunteers
who made this tour possible. And to
those who participated, I hope that the
25th edition of this signature tour was
one that you will long remember.
Finally, the tour committee hopes to
see both our frequent tour participants
and newcomers many times next year!
