should not exceed $300.
If this is your first time performing this service, please first read the
operating instructions for your floor
jack. Please pay careful attention on
how to tighten the pressure relief
valve prior to attempting to lift the
vehicle and how to loosen that same
valve to lower the vehicle.
You may also want to review
some of the tire rotation videos that
are on YouTube.
Here are the steps I follow when
performing this service:

1. Look in your vehicle owner's
manual (or search the internet) to
find the recommended maximum
torque for the lug bolts for your
car. THIS SPECIFICATION IS NOT
UNIVERSAL. Write it in your
owner's manual if that information
is not already there.
2. Park the vehicle on a solid and
clean level surface. If you use
your garage, make sure that you
have plenty of room on either side
of the vehicle to move about.
3. Put the vehicle in Park (or first
gear, for a manual-transmission
car), and set the parking brake.
4. Put on the gloves.
5. Maneuver the floor jack under one
side of the vehicle, ensuring that
the jack's lifting pad is under the
vehicle's front lift pad (i.e., the
vehicle's " jacking puck " ) (you'll
see it).
6. Pump the jack lever such that the
jack lift pad is in contact with the
vehicle lift pad, without lifting the
vehicle.

7. Attach the socket to the 6-inch
long ½-inch drive extension.
8. Attach that assembly to the ½-inch
drive breaker bar.
9. Starting with the front wheel,
SLIGHTLY LOOSEN (COUNTER
CLOCKWISE) each lug bolt, following a " star " pattern.
10. Do the same with the rear wheel.
11. Pump the jack lever such that
both front and rear tires on the
side of the car that you're working are off the ground.
12. Remove the socket/extension
assembly from the breaker bar,
and reattach that assembly to the
½-inch drive ratchet (socket
wrench).
13. Remove the lug bolts from the
front wheel (in a star pattern)
placing each lug bolt in one of
the two plastic bowls.
14. Remove the front wheel.
15. Perform a visual inspection of
the tire. Carefully remove any
debris which is caught in the
tread.

16. Perform a visual inspection of the
wheel. Because of the poor conditions of the area roads, there's a
good chance that you may have
hit a pothole, bending the wheel
" out of round " . Check for any
damage to the inside of the wheel
rim.
17. Roll that wheel & tire to the rearwheel area.
18. Go back to the front-wheel area,
perform a visual inspection of the
brake pads, rotor, and front
suspension for any unusual wear.
19. Return to the rear-wheel area,
remove the rear lug bolts by following a star pattern, and place
them in the second plastic bowl.
20. Because of corrosion on the rear
brake rotor hub area, the rear
wheel may be a bit difficult to
remove from the rotor. If this is
the case, use the rubber mallet to
strike the bottom half the wheel to
dislodge it.
21. Once removed, use the wire
brush to clean the contact area on
both the wheel and the rotor.
Usually, it's the hub area that
needs to be cleaned.
22. Visually inspect the rear tire, roll
to the front of the vehicle.
23. Visually inspect the rear brake
rotor, pads, and rear suspension
for any unusual wear.
24. Use either your finger or a brush
to apply a thin layer of anti-seize
compound to the rear wheel hub
area and on the area of the
FORMER FRONT-WHEEL that
will be in contact with that hub.
25. Install the lug guide pin in one of
the holes in the rear wheel hub.
26. Mount the FORMER FRONT
wheel onto the REAR wheel hub,
using the lug guide pin as a
guide.
27. Remove the socket and 6-inch
½-inch extension from the ½inch drive ratchet.
28. Use that assembly to re-install
the rear-wheel lug bolts, in a star
pattern in which the lug guide pin
occupies the last hole whose bolt
is to be installed.
29. Remove the lug guide pin, install
