T R A D I T I O N S
The car was not pleasant to drive in
traffic with its V8-sounding idle.
It just needed to be revved. And
revved it got.
I still remember being pulled
over in Old Town Alexandria on the
way to brunch with John. I had left
the traffic light rather briskly and the
engine was ready for the exercise.
Apparently the Webers had snorted
loudly enough to catch the attention

of a cruising officer who hadn't seen
us, but had only heard. So, no ticket,
but I did have sweaty palms.
The 2002 was my only transportation for a while, and when the
time came to sell it and move on, I
found that the uprated GT3-classification engine was just way too
radical for anyone who was even
slightly interested in purchasing it.
At the suggestion of Terry and Neal

at QCS, they took the performance
engine back and sold it to a New
Jersey BMW dealer. In return, I was
provided with a milder engine so as
to have a better chance of selling
the otherwise streetable car. I heard
later that soon after the swap,
the son of the dealer had blown the
performance engine in drag racing.
And revved it had been.
It was some time later when I

got the first phone call from George,
who initiated this story with his
recent email and who then wanted to
buy the 2002. I remember that he
was an extremely happy camper
when buying the car. It wasn't too
long into his ownership when he
called again and asked if I would be
interested in buying it back.
However, I had already had my fun
with it, and it was his turn now.

The Second Ownership.

Raine Sold the Car to George Milonogiannis. And His Car It Was.
(The story continues with George's
recollections...)
have always been an admirer of the
BMW 2002 Series ever since I was
just a little kid. Back in the 70s, my

father had a modified 1602 when we
lived on the Island of Crete, and the
memories of that car are still with me
today. In 1982, I moved to the United
States to study. At the time, however,

as a student living on limited funds,
I wasn't able to realize my dream and
buy a 2002.
When I graduated and got a job,
I managed to save up enough to

make my dream come true. One
evening, while walking in Annapolis,
MD with my wife, I saw a beautiful
red 2002 parked by the side of the
road. It had a large red for sale sign
