Over the last year, dB has featured a series of articles entitled
"The Habits of Highly Effective Autocrossers." The series featured tips
and techniques for competitive motorsports driving gleaned from
years of experience. dB now continues that series by interviewing
successful autocrossers from the National Capital Chapter of BMW CCA.
We're pleased to have the opportunity to interview Fraser Dachille, the 2019
season champion in NCC's T1 autocross class. Fraser has wheeled several
different cars to successful season outcomes over the past few years.
dB: In what years and car classes have you won a season championship?
Fraser: I've been fortunate enough to have reasonable success over the last
few seasons:
* 2015 - MINI class, 1st place - 2006 MINI Cooper S
* 2016 - PAX class 1st place - 2016 Subaru WRX
* 2017 - PAX class 4th place - 2013 Volvo S60
* 2018 - T1 - 3rd place - 1995 BMW M3
* 2019 - T1 - 1st place - 1995 BMW M3
dB: Tell our readership how and when you got started in motorsports?
Fraser: I began my motorsports experience with the 2013 NCC Autocross
Novice school held in July of that year. Prior to that event, I had only done the
Club M-School in South Carolina in 2012, but at the time I did not consider
using my own car for any motorsports events due to fear of wear and tear.

September I October

I took the NCC Autocross novice school in 2013 and I was hooked.
That same year I did my first HPDE (also with NCC) on the Shenandoah
circuit at Summit Point. Since then I have put five full seasons of autocross
under my belt with this club, one full season with SCCA, and a smattering
of other single events with other clubs (including an SCCA Hawaii Region
autocross in a rental car when I was there on vacation).
dB: What's your all-time favorite personal car for motorsports?
Fraser: My favorite personal car for motorsport activities (autocross and
HPDE) is my current car: a 1995 BMW M3. My second favorite is my prior
track car, a 1986 Mercedes Benz 190e 2.3-16 -I will always remember that
car fondly, but parts availability was nowhere near what it is for the E36 M3
I am currently driving.
dB: What were your criteria for selecting your current car?
Fraser: After seeing them perform so well at autocrosses and HPDE events,
I knew that the E36 M3 was what I was setting out to find. The E36 M3 I
acquired was previously a California car; when I bought it, the prior owner
